Conil de la Frontera Conil de la Frontera is a picturesque seaside town, located on the Costa de la Luz, in the province of Cadiz. Situated on the Atlantic coast in the south western part of Spain, Conil has a population of 19,000 inhabitants but this can double or triple during the summer. This coastal town is located close to the estuary of the river Salado, south of cape Roche. You can access Conil from the crossroads on the N-340 Cadiz - Malaga road. Conil is easily accessible from the capital of Cadiz, with daily bus services. Conil de la Frontera is fast becoming popular with summer visitors. It is still a typical Andalucian town with narrow cobbled streets, tapa bars and open air markets during the weekends and pavement cafes around the main plazas. The old town centre of Conil is a small area with plenty of tapa bars and fish restaurants as well as pizzerias. Walking up from the seafront along Avda. de la Playa you arrive at Plaza Santa Catalina where you will see a variety of places that offer local specialties such as atún encebollado (tuna cooked in onion) and chocos con patatas (cuttlefish with potatoes). Tuna is a delicacy in this area as it is caught fresh in the Atlantic waters off Cadiz. A great time to visit Conil is in June, when they celebrate Tuna Week, where restaurants serve superb tuna dishes at really good prices. |
Activities Around Conil Conil de la Frontera has some 14 km of beautiful golden sandy beaches, with transparent and crystal waters. On these superb beaches all sorts of water sports can be found, as well as from the fishing port. The fine golden sand of Conil extends for many kilometres in both directions. A particular favourite is Playa de El Palmar, just a few kilometres south of Conil, where you can enjoy one of Spain's finest uncrowded beaches. There are a couple of excellent beach restaurants here and one or two become discotheques on hot summer nights. There is much more to discover as you continue south to Los Caños de Meca, Barbate, Zahara de Los Atunes and Cabo de Trafalgar where the famous sea battle of Trafalgar was fought. Some tourist Information about Conil The Costa de la Luz and the Conil area provide opportunities for many cultural, sporting and culinary activities far too numerous to describe fully in this website. There are all the usual holiday facilities in Conil such as restaurants, bars, shops and narrow streets for aimless wandering. More local Information about Conil & the area. |
